Therapeutic massage session at Palomino Massage & Acupuncture

Massage

Massage is an umbrella term for a myriad of hands-on therapies that manipulate soft tissue structures in order to bring relief to our overstressed and overburdened mindbody experience.

Massage is a powerful and effective healing tool when managing acute or chronic pain. When receiving a massage for the purpose of pain management and postural realignment, the work you receive will focus on specific problem areas. Massage for pain management usually takes 3-5 sessions to resolve one issue. As a clinical massage therapist unwinds your structural imbalances, clients may find relieving one area often passes the load to another. This is common. As new issues arise, our massage therapists follow the direction your pain guides them.

Massage is a wonderful way to unwind the mind and renew the spirit. Often clients come to us with no specific pain issue, looking to unwind and destress. For clients who come seeking pain relief they often find that once their issue is resolved they are ready to enjoy more relaxing bodywork to maintain how good they feel. This is the sweet spot of maintenance and preventative wellness. It is at this point shifting into the whole body deep relaxing massage on a regular basis can prove preventative and energizing.

Palomino massage therapists offer a diverse set of skills, but share a passion for holistic care and wellness. Some therapists will apply consistent pressure and rhythm to work through stubborn fascial structures in order to break up patterns of tension. Other therapists apply direct pressure to release trigger points. At times a therapist will work the whole body and at other times a therapist will focus their intention to release a specific problem area. This will all depend on the client’s goals and each therapist’s unique style. We encourage clients to give all our therapists a try in order to receive the benefit of whomever’s skills fit your needs at different times. At Palomino therapists work as a team, building a community of clients and wellness providers. And even though some of our styles differ, all of our work aims to relieve strained muscle tissue with increased blood flow and flexibility. Our combined work blends styles such as deep tissue, sports massage, trigger point therapy, deep relaxation, neurosomatic therapy, acupressure, lymphatic drainage and myofascial release. We also offer cupping and gua sha.

Acupuncture needles placed during treatment at Palomino Massage & Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Like massage, acupuncture is a very effective pain management tool and a great way to unwind the mind and renew the spirit. Acupuncture sessions utilize fine filament needles, cupping, gua sha, electroacupuncture, and applied asian body work to decompress the nervous system, down regulate inflammation and balance neuroendocrine processes in order to manage pain, neuropathy, autoimmune disorders, dermatological conditions, reproductive wellness, depression, anxiety, insomnia, appetite, and many other health concerns.

In all acupuncture treatments, needles will be inserted into acupoints along the myofascial meridians. Most of these points are areas of convergence where soft tissue structures gather and enter deeper into the body. Using these gathering and entry points allows the stimulus of the needle to communicate deeper into the body where healing is elicited through biofeedback mechanisms in multiple layers of tissue. Often clients are curious if meridians are the nervous system, or are they the muscles, are they the circulatory system? The answer is all of the above. Meridians follow enclosed tracts of fascial structures or casings that house muscles, nerves, blood vessels, tracts of lymph nodes, etc. which attach to bony prominences. Therefore when a needle is inserted into an acupoint, everything that travels along these anatomical pathways are being stimulated. The stimulation has been observed through research to travel as far as the hypothalamus, making its way up then back down to clear and unwind blockages along the pathway. This is where physical medicine meets energy healing.

For stubborn orthopedic issues, Trigger Point Needling (TPN), also known as dry needling, can be applied. During this technique a needle is inserted then manipulated to release the trigger point in what is known as a twitch response or fasciculation. Clients describe this experience as a painless twitch that immediately releases a great amount of tension. In orthopedic treatments, another technique known as subcutaneous needling may also be applied. This is a painless technique where one needle is placed just beneath skin and worked side to side. This is useful when fascia just beneath the skin and over the muscle has become sticky, restricting blood flow to sensory nerves causing chronic pain and joint dysfunction. This technique is often applied when treating tendonitis, arthritis and bursitis. Using both of these orthopedic techniques together allows an acupuncturist to address multiple layers of fascia to resolve adhesions, refresh capillary beds and liberate restricted nerves. These techniques are fast and utilize a minimal amount of needles in specific areas.

Acupuncture treatment protocols vary depending on the chief issue being addressed and most clients experience resolution within 3-5 sessions. Similar to massage, clients may find once their reason for coming in is resolved, they may wish to continue with acupuncture treatments for the preventative and holistic health benefits. At first sessions will be scheduled close together so each treatment can effectively build upon the last. Once an issue is resolved, space between treatment widens and clients may continue to schedule acupuncture on a regular basis for maintenance or preventive purposes.

Herbal medicine preparation at Palomino Massage & Acupuncture

Herbal Medicine

Herbal remedies exist for many health concerns and our provider is here to answer questions you may have on how this amazing medicine can benefit you. Unlike supplements, which are taken daily and purchased over the counter, Herbal remedies must be prescribed by a licensed health care provider and are only taken for the duration of a client’s symptoms. This is medicine, not supplementation. There is a crossover and many single herbs can be taken daily for nutritional value. However, for the purpose of medication, single herbs are combined into a synergistic formula that treats a condition until the symptoms have cleared. Once the symptoms have cleared, the formula can be discontinued and the client’s condition is re-evaluated.

Herbal medicine is beneficial when treating digestive disorders, dermatological conditions, balancing hormones, reproductive health, anemia, fatigue, depression and anxiety. They can even be useful when regulating inflammation and chronic pain as well as allergies, colds, flus and other pathogenic diseases. Treatment for all of the above will use similar herbs as these conditions are often related and require a holistic approach.

Herbal prescriptions are formulated by your provider which will be administered as a powder to be dissolved in warm water. Or, your provider may choose a patented formula in tablet or tincture form. The prescription is either called in to a local pharmacy or can be filled through an online order and mailed to your home. There are several herbal pharmacies in Texas and at least one online pharmacy. All options are great to work with and can have your medicine ready for you within a day or two.
